Esau

The name Esau, is derived from the Hebrew word “Se'iyr or śāʿîr” meaning “hair”.

  • Genesis 27:11 "Jacob answered his mother Rebekah, “Look, my brother Esau is a hairy man, but I am smooth-skinned."

Esau is described as hairy (like Seir) and red (like Edom). The Hebrew word Edom means “red, ruddy”, and the Hebrew Bible associates it with the name Esau, eldest son of the Hebrew patriarch Isaac, as he was born “all red”.

  • Genesis 25:25 "The first one came out red, covered with hair like a fur coat; so they named him Esau.."

According to some scholars, the word “red” used to describe Esau draws a parallel with the “red lentil soup” for which he sold his birthright. But opinions differ as to why Scriptures emphasized that he was very hairy. Yet the Bible's insistence on Esau's hairiness and skin complexion points to a fundamental or absolute truth about his physical appearance. That being said, whenever Scripture insists on describing an individual's skin color, it implies that the complexion of that individual was distinctly different from that of either the rest of his family or the people around him.

💡According to an article by Stewart W. Hindley and Albert Damon in the American Journal of Physical Anthropology, the world's hairiest populations are found in Northern Europe, the Mediterranean coast and the Middle East (where Esau and his sons originally settled). Whereas in regions such as Southeast Asia, the Amazon and sub-Saharan Africa, most people have very little body hair, despite the intense heat.

We can then assume that the twins Jacob and Esau, were born with distinctive skin tones: Esau being pale, Jacob would inevitably be of a darker complexion. Some may wonder how this is possible, but there are lots of well-documented cases around the world of parents of black descent giving birth to dark and pale twins. In this respect, the Bible uses the term “races/nations” to make a clear distinction between Esau and Jacob.

  • Genesis 25:23 "and He declared to her: “Two nations are in your womb, and two peoples from within you will be separated; one people will be stronger than the other, and the older will serve the younger.”

It's important to understand that, contrary to preconceived ideas, so-called "black" people are not limited by any spectrum of skintone, as they are both dark-skinned and white-skinned individuals in their genetic material. Although pale-skinned, Esau was a man of black descent, which points to the black ancestry of their parents.

While his father was still alive, Esau moved to Mount Seir, then inhabited by the Horites. Once in their land, he subdued the Horites and took possession of Mount Seir, renaming it the land of Edom or Idumea.

  • Genesis 36:1 "Now this is the genealogy of Esau, who is Edom."

  • Genesis 36:8 “So Esau (that is, Edom) settled in the area of Mount Seir.”

  • Genesis 36:43 "Esau was the father of the Edomites."

Edom

Ancient Edom is located in the southwest of present-day Jordan, between the Dead Sea and the Gulf of Aqaba. According to the Book of Jasher, after Esau's grandson, Tsepho, took power, the territory of the Edomites extended from Arabia to the Middle East, and then on to Rome.

The Horites

According to Genesis 36, the Horites later cohabited and intermarried with Esau's family, and his descendants became the Edomites.

Seir the Horite (or Hurrian) was the father of Horites and Mount Seir, also known as Edom, was named in his honor.

  • The word Seir: Se'iyr or śāʿîr in ancient Hebrew means shaggy, demon-possessed goat, or demonic hairy goat |See Strong's H8163|.

  • In Hebrew, the word "Hori", חרִי or chori, means "white" and "white bread". As the ISBE (International Standard Bible Encyclopedia),  it possibly means "white nation".

According to the Book of Jasher, Seir was a descendant of Hor, descendant of Hivi, son of Canaan. This would make Seir the great-great-grandson of Canaan

  • "And Seir the son of Hur, son of Hivi, son of Canaan, went and found a valley opposite to Mount Paran, and he built a city there, and he and his seven sons and his household dwelt there, and he called the city which he built Seir, according to his name; that is the land of Seir unto this day." |Jasher 10:28|

Now, if Seir the Horite and his descendants were a white nation, the implication is that Canaan, fourth son of Ham, and ancestor of Seir (father of the Horites), would have been the progenitor of a white nation.

Historical archives indicate that the Horites were a group of people who inhabited Mount Seir in the land of Canaan, the region later known as Edom. The Horites are often associated with the Hurrians, a Canaanite coalition said to have migrated to the land of Canaan from northeastern Mesopotamia, the Caucasus or beyond. The fact that the Horites originated from “Mount Seir”, or the future land of Edom, is explicitly stated in the book of Deuteronomy.

  • Deuteronomy 2:12 "Seir was once inhabited by the Horites; the children of Esau drove them out and destroyed them before them, and settled in their place."

  • Deuteronomy 2:22 "In the same way the LORD did to the descendants of Esau who dwell in Seir, when he destroyed the Horites before them; they drove them out and settled in their place until today 'today.

Another tradition holds that the name Horite comes from חוֹר or chor, meaning “hole” or “cave”, presumably because the Horites were considered “Troglodytes or cavemen”. However, the Bible associates cave dwellers with Esau, and describes them as people of the worst kind, whose ancestors were fools.

  • Job 30:4-8 "Whose houses were the caves of the rocks, who lived under the wild shrubs. They will cry out among the rustling bushes. They are sons of fools and vile men, whose name and glory are quenched from off the earth. But now I am their music, and they have me for a by-word. And they stood aloof and abhorred me, and spared not to spit in my face."

  • Obadiah 1:3-8 "The pride of your heart has deceived you, O dwellers in the clefts of the rocks whose habitation is the heights ... But how Esau will be pillaged, his hidden treasures sought out! ... In that day, declares the LORD, will I not destroy the wise men of Edom and the men of understanding in the mountains of Esau?

The Sons of Esau

Esau married several wives, though Scripture is unclear as to the exact number:

  • Adah, daughter of Elon, the Hittite.

  • Basemath, daughter of Ishmael, sister of Nebaioth. She is the mother of Eliphaz. She is associated with prostitution, her name being linked to jewels and perfumes.

  • Judith, daughter of Beeri, the Hittite.

  • Aholibama, daughter of Ana, daughter of Zibeon, the Hivite son of Seir. Her name is linked to idolatry and she is also described as an adulteress.

  • Mahalath, daughter of Ishmael

Eliphaz, Esau's eldest son, fathered children with his Horite concubine named Timna, sister of Lotan, son of Seir. She bore Amalek to Eliphaz.

  • Genesis 36:12 "Now Timna was the concubine of Eliphaz, Esau’s son, and she bore Amalek to Eliphaz. These were the sons of Adah, Esau’s wife."

Amalek, grandson of Esau, was born of Eliphaz by his concubine Timna. He was one of Edom's tribal chiefs. He grew up in Esau's household, where he too became imbued with their pathological hatred of Jacob's descendants. His descendants became the nation of Amalek and lived south of the land of Canaan. The Amalekites were a people who lived opposite Egypt in the southern part of the Middle East, namely the Arabian Peninsula.

  • Numbers 13:28-29 "Nevertheless, the people living in the land are strong, and the cities are large and fortified. We even saw the descendants of Anak there. The Amalekites live in the land of the Negev; the Hittites, Jebusites, and Amorites live in the hill country; and the Canaanites live by the sea and along the Jordan."

  • 1 Samuel 15:7 "Then Saul struck down the Amalekites all the way from Havilah to Shur, which is east of Egypt."

While the Israelites were still in Rephidim, recovering from their escape from Egypt, Amalek viciously attacked them by surprise - although the Israelites had no plans against the Amalekites and weren't even heading into their territory. The Israelites defeated Amalek in battle, killing his most valiant warriors. Following the battle, the Lord commanded Moses to keep a record of Amalek's treacherous attack, and to instruct Moses' future successor, Joshua, to remember the attack as well.

  • Exodus 17:14-16 "Then the LORD said to Moses, “Write this on a scroll as a reminder and recite it to Joshua, because I will utterly blot out the memory of Amalek from under heaven... “Indeed,” he said, “a hand was lifted up toward the throne of the LORD. The LORD will war against Amalek from generation to generation."

  • Ezekiel 35:10-11 "Because you have said, ‘These two nations and countries will be ours, and we will possess them,’ even though the LORD was there, therefore as surely as I live, declares the Lord GOD, I will treat you according to the anger and jealousy you showed in your hatred against them, and I will make Myself known among them when I judge you."

Zepho, grandson of Esau, was chief of the armies of Angeas king of Dinhaba. It was under his reign that Edom became Kittim.

Zepho and Amalek, grandsons of Esau, became enemies of ELOHIM as a result of their great hatred of Jacob's descendants.

  • Ezekiel 35:15 “As you rejoiced when the inheritance of the house of Israel became desolate, so will I do to you. You will become a desolation, O Mount Seir, and so will all of Edom. Then they will know that I am the LORD.“

How Esau became an ennemy of the Lord?

In fact, the Bible attests that malevolent and evil entities rule the greatest Western powers, namely Persia and Greece. This is illustrated in Daniel 10:20, where two demonic entities, the prince of Persia and the prince of Greece, fiercely oppose the angel who came to bring a prophecy of truth to Daniel.

  • Daniel 10:20 "Then he said, “Do you know why I have come to you? And now I must return to fight with the prince of Persia; and when I have gone forth, indeed the prince of Greece will come."

The Bible also attests to the fact that the Goat presides over Greece, yet historically the Goat has always symbolized the devil. The “Horn between the two eyes of the Goat” is the spirit of deception that opposes Truth. In other words, the spirit of lies, misleading, dissimulation, and falsehood presides over these great Edomite empires.

  • Daniel 8:12 "And in the rebellion, the host and the daily sacrifice were given over to the horn, and it flung truth to the ground and prospered in whatever it did."

  • Daniel 7:21-22 "“I was watching; and the same horn was making war against the saints, and prevailing against them, until the Ancient of Days came, and a judgment was made in favor of the saints of the Most High, and the time came for the saints to possess the kingdom."

  • Daniel 8:21 "Daniel 8:20-21 "The ram which you saw, having the two horns—they are the kings of Media and Persia. And the male goat is the kingdom of Greece. The large horn that is between its eyes is the first king."

  • John 8:44 "You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies."

Through disobedience to God's command not to unite with the Canaanite nation, Esau was instrumental in the rise of the Edomite empires. The great beast with seven heads and ten horns, mentioned in Revelation 13:1, are seven great Edomite empires originating from Esau. These empires are subjugated to the devil and serve him. The ten diadems on the ten horns symbolize the reign of lies and deceit that gives power to the beast.

  • Revelation 13:1 "And I stood upon the sand of the sea, and saw a beast rise up out of the sea, having seven heads and ten horns, and upon his horns ten crowns, and upon his heads the name of blasphemy.

How Edom became Rome
  • Jeremiah 49:10-18 "But I will strip Esau bare; I will uncover his hiding places, and he will be unable to conceal himself. His descendants will be destroyed along with his relatives and neighbors, and he will be no more..... For by Myself I have sworn – declares the LORD"

After Joseph's death, Zepho tried to convince King Angeas to go and fight the Sons of Jacob in Egypt. But when Angeas declined, Zepho turned against him. He went to Kittim (Rome) and joined forces with them to fight Angeas.

Having defeated Angeas in battle, Tsepho went on to subjugate the sons of Tubal (descendants of Japheth) and the inhabitants of the surrounding islands. Winning the confidence of Kittim, Tsepho was proclaimed king and ruled over them for 50 years (Jasher 61:23-24). After the Israelites' exodus, war broke out between Abianus, the new king of Kittim, and Hadad, king of Edom, who was extremely cruel to the Israelites.

  • 1 Kings 11:25 "And he was an adversary to Israel all the days of Solomon, beside the mischief that Hadad did: and he abhorred Israel, and reigned over Syria."

Abianus killed Hadad and subdued Edom. Thus Edom and Kittim merged into one nation (Jasher 90:1-8). Afterward, the territory of the Edomites stretched from Arabia to the Middle East, and on to Rome. Note that the Septuagint Bible uses Chittim/Kittim interchangeably with Rome.

Canaan = Seir = Esau = Edom = Kittim = the Vatican = the beast

  • Isaiah 34:8-10 "For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion. Edom’s streams will be turned to tar, and her soil to sulfur; her land will become a blazing pitch. It will not be quenched—day or night."

  • Isaiah 34:6-8 "For My sword shall be bathed in heaven; Indeed it shall come down on Edom, And on the people of My curse, for judgment... For it is the day of the Lord’s vengeance, The year of recompense for the cause of Zion."

  • Joel 3:19 "Egypt will become desolate, and Edom a desert wasteland, because of the violence done to the people of Judah, in whose land they shed innocent blood."
