Why Jesus Christ is not just a simple prophet

Many religions around the world accept Jesus as a prophet, teacher and lover of the Word of God, but do not believe that He is God, Son of God, let alone the Messiah. But those who reduce Him to just another good prophet need to put into perspective YESHUA's own biblical statements about His deity for He clearly claimed and confirmed to have the same power as The Most High.

He claimed to have absolute power on earth and in heaven and the authority to judge the nations.

  • Matthew 28:18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me."

  • John 5:26-27 "For as the Father has life in Himself, so also He has granted the Son to have life in Himself. And He has given Him authority to execute judgment, because He is the Son of Man."

He claimed to have the power to forgive sins.

  • Mark 2:5-11 "When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, “Son, your sins are forgiven ... But so that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins...” He said to the paralytic, “I tell you, get up, pick up your mat, and go home. And immediately the man got up, picked up his mat, and walked out in front of them all. As a result, they were all astounded and glorified God, saying, “We have never seen anything like this!”

He concretely demonstrated his power to raise the dead by his will and his authoritative word.

  • Mark 5:39-42 "He went inside and asked, “Why all this commotion and weeping? The child is not dead, but asleep. And they laughed at Him. After He had put them all outside, He took the child’s father and mother and His own companions, and went in to see the child.  Taking her by the hand, Jesus said, “Talitha koum! which means, “Little girl, I say to you, get up! 42Immediately the girl got up and began to walk around. She was twelve years old, and at once they were utterly astounded."

  • John 11:14-44 "So Jesus told them plainly, “Lazarus is dead ... After Jesus had said this, He called out in a loud voice, “Lazarus, come out!”. The man who had been dead came out with his hands and feet bound in strips of linen, and his face wrapped in a cloth. “Unwrap him and let him go, Jesus told them."

  • Luke 7:12-15 "As He approached the town gate, He saw a dead man being carried out, the only son of his mother, and she was a widow. And a large crowd from the town was with her ... Then He went up and touched the coffin, and those carrying it stood still. “Young man,” He said, “I tell you, get up!” And the dead man sat up and began to speak! Then Jesus gave him back to his mother."

There are also statements from YESHUA in which He speaks of His role after our physical death. He states that all judgment has been handed over to him, he holds the keys to hell and death, and he will judge our actions.

  • John 5:21-23 “For just as the Father raises the dead and gives them life, so also the Son gives life to whom He wishes. Furthermore, the Father judges no one, but has assigned all judgment to the Son, so that all may honor the Son just as they honor the Father. Whoever does not honor the Son does not honor the Father who sent Him.”

  • Revelation 1:18 "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last, the Living One. I was dead, and behold, now I am alive forever and ever! And I hold the keys of Death and of Hades."

The Bible is very clear in invoking the fact that YESHUA is able to set free those who, through fear of death, have been enslaved all their lives. He has the power to grant life and resurrect those who have been killed by men, He has the power to take life in a way that no man or the devil can, and He has the power to destroy both the physical body and the soul.

  • Matthew 10:28 "Do not be afraid of those who kill the body but cannot kill the soul. Instead, fear the One who can destroy both soul and body in hell."

  • John 10:17-18 "The reason the Father loves Me is that I lay down My life in order to take it up again. No one takes it from Me, but I lay it down of My own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from My Father.”

Above all, YESHUA has predicted the fate of humanity with great accuracy. Prophecies that past generations have all experienced in one way or another; and that are very difficult for us to disregard or argue against because we can all observe them and feel their intensity. The apostle Paul also took up the words of Jesus by reminding us that before the coming of the Messiah, the antichrist must rule all the time that has been granted to him.

  • 2 Thessalonians 2:3-4 "Let no one deceive you in any way, for it will not come until the rebellion occurs and the man of lawlessness— the son of destruction— is revealed. He will oppose and exalt himself above every so-called god or object of worship. So he will seat himself in the temple of God, proclaiming himself to be God"

Jesus prophesied about the condition of the world during the reign of the antichrist and before his return:

Evil will be everywhere and love will be nowhere.

  • 2 Timothy 3:1-7 "But understand this: In the last days terrible times will come. For men will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, unloving, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, without love of good, traitorous, reckless, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having a form of godliness but denying its power. Turn away from such as these! They are the kind who worm their way into households and captivate vulnerable women who are weighed down with sins and led astray by various passions, who are always learning but never able to come to a knowledge of the truth "

  • Matthew 24:10-12 "At that time many will fall away and will betray and hate one another, and many false prophets will arise and mislead many. Because of the multiplication of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold."

Many will reject the Word of Truth and will only want to hear nice things. They will prefer to cling to pastors who will teach them heresies, work false miracles, minimize the danger of hell and willingly tell them that it is enough to just believe, no need to repent or change their way of life: live your life carefree, focus on self-worship and carnal pleasures, as well as the acquisition of material goods.

  • 2 Timothy 4:3-4 "For the time will come when men will not tolerate sound doctrine, but with itching ears they will gather around themselves teachers to suit their own desires. So they will turn their ears away from the truth and turn aside to myths."

  • 1 Timothy 4:1 "Now the Spirit expressly states that in later times some will abandon the faith to follow deceitful spirits and the teachings of demons, influenced by the hypocrisy of liars, whose consciences are seared with a hot iron"

  • Matthew 24:24 "For false Christs and false prophets will arise and will give great signs and wonders, so as to mislead, if possible, even the elect."

There will be wars and threats of wars between nations. Various frightening natural phenomena, calamities and plagues throughout the world.

  • Matthew 24:6-8 "You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. These things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains."

  • Luke 21:9-11 "When you hear of wars and rebellions, do not be alarmed. These things must happen first, but the end is not imminent.” Then He told them, “Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be great earthquakes, famines, and pestilences in various places, along with fearful sights and great signs from heaven,"

  • Luke 21:25-26 " There will be signs in the sun and moon and stars, and on the earth dismay among the nations, bewildered by the roaring of the sea and the surging of the waves. Men will faint from fear and anxiety over what is coming upon the earth, for the powers of the heavens will be shaken."

Christians will be mocked, hated, and killed.

  • 2 Peter 3:3-4 "Most importantly, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires. “Where is the promise of His coming?” they will ask. “Ever since our fathers fell asleep, everything continues as it has from the beginning of creation.”

  • Matthew 24:9 "Then they will deliver you over to be persecuted and killed, and you will be hated by all nations because of My name."

However, all these events are not yet the end.

The apostle Paul warns that the precursor to the imminent and sudden coming of the Lord will be the unity among the nations giving everyone the impression that peace and security have finally been established on earth.

  • 1 Thessalonians 5:2-3 "For you yourselves know full well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night. While they are saying, “Peace and safety!” then destruction will come upon them suddenly like labor pains upon a woman with child, and they will not escape."

This will be followed by a terrible cataclysm: the sky will disappear, the sun will be darkened, the moon will no longer shine and will take on the color of blood, the stars will fall, the mountains and islands will be shaken.

  • Matthew 24:29-33 "Immediately after the tribulation of those days: ‘The sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the heavens will be shaken.’ At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in heaven, and all the tribes of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven, with power and great glory... So also, when you see all these things, you will know that He is near, right at the door."

  • Revelation 6:12-14 "And when I saw the Lamb open the sixth seal, there was a great earthquake, and the sun became black like sackcloth of goat hair, and the whole moon turned blood red, and the stars of the sky fell to the earth like unripe figs dropping from a tree shaken by a great wind. The sky receded like a scroll being rolled up, and every mountain and island was moved from its place."

If YESHUA is not who He claimed to be, then who is He?

1 John 2:22 "Who is the liar? Isn’t it the person who denies that Jesus is the Christ? This person is the antichrist"

We cannot deny His deity and reduce Him to a mere prophet. There are NO half measures with Him.  Let us be careful in our walk with the Lord.

May the Holy Spirit guide you through the understanding of this message.
