Are we all "Children of God"?

It is not uncommon to hear people say, "We are all children of God, no matter what our belief system is. Is this really what the Bible teaches?

First of all, humans are like the most beautiful creation in the workshop of a blacksmith. A creation which has been given autonomy, sovereignty to choose freely and the ability to reproduce. Unlike us, YESHUA is not an accessory in the blacksmith's shop, but is the very Son of the blacksmith who is endowed with all the emblems of divine royalty, just like His Father. His primary nature, before his human incarnation, is celestial. He was not created from dust by a creative act as we were, but He was brought into existence by some sort of birth process. The Bible says that He was born / He came forth from the Father.

  • Proverbs 8:23-25 "From everlasting I was established, from the beginning, before the earth began. When there were no watery depths, I was brought forth, when no springs were overflowing with water. Before the mountains were settled, before the hills, I was brought forth."

  • John 16:27-28 "For the Father Himself loves you, because you have loved Me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world. In turn, I will leave the world and go to the Father."

  • John 8:42 "Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I have come here from God."

Here it must be understood that the word "begotten" does not mean that ELOHIM is essentially a woman but rather alludes to the mystery of the fellowship that is hidden in YAHWEH concerning the process by which everything is brought into existence. A mystery that we as humans cannot fully grasp, because the celestial dimension is far beyond our earthly understanding.

  • Ephesians 3:9 "and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ"

Thus by his celestial composition, YESHUA is naturally and spontaneously " the Son of God."

Yet, from Genesis to Revelations, Scriptures reveal that claiming or believing that we are all "children of God" because we are created by Him is a fallacious affirmation. We can also find some statements from YESHUA that support this fact:

  • John 8:43-47 "Why do you not understand what I am saying? It is because you are unable to accept My message. 44You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out his desires. He was a murderer from the beginning, refusing to uphold the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, because he is a liar and the father of lies... Whoever belongs to God hears the words of God. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God."

  • 1 John 3:8-10 "The one who practices sin is of the devil, because the devil has been sinning from the very start. This is why the Son of God was revealed, to destroy the works of the devil. Anyone born of God refuses to practice sin, because God’s seed abides in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God. By this the children of God are distinguished from the children of the devil: Anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor is anyone who does not love his brother."

  • Isaiah 57:3-4 "But come here, you sons of a sorceress, you offspring of adulterers and prostitutes! Whom are you mocking? At whom do you snarl and stick out your tongue? Are you not children of transgression, offspring of deceit ?"

  • Acts 13:10 "And said, “O child of the devil and enemy of all righteousness, you are full of all kinds of deceit and trickery! Will you never stop perverting the straight ways of the Lord ?"

Why such statements if we all come from YAHWEH?

Because through the disobedience of Adam and Eve, we all automatically inherited a sinful nature that makes us children of rebellion, slaves to sin and by default distinct from YAHWEH. He who does not fully comprehend the implications of being a "child of God" will be under the illusion that he belongs to the Most High when in fact he does not fulfill the requirements.

Then who are the children of God?

They are the children of the promise.

  • Romans 9:8 "So it is not the children of the flesh who are God’s children, but it is the children of the promise who are regarded as offspring."

  • John 17:8-10 "For I have given them the words You gave Me, and they have received them. They knew with certainty that I came from You, and they believed that You sent Me. I ask on their behalf. I do not ask on behalf of the world, but on behalf of those You have given Me; for they are Yours. All I have is Yours, and all You have is Mine; and in them I have been glorified "

Who are the children of the promise?

For we have all sinned and come short of the glory of God, the children of promise are people who come from the various nations of the world.

  • Isaiah 11:11 "On that day the Lord will extend His hand a second time to recover the remnant of His people from Assyria, from Egypt, from Pathros, from Cush, from Elam, from Shinar, from Hamath, and from the islands of the sea."

They are mainly recognized by their character traits and the following behaviors:

► They love YESHUA. and through unshakable faith, they have accepted the work of salvation.

  • John 1:12-13 "But to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God— children born not of blood, nor of the desire or will of man, but born of God."

  • 1 John 5:1 "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves those born of Him."

  • John 8:42 "Jesus said to them, “If God were your Father, you would love Me, for I have come here from God. I have not come on My own, but He sent Me."

► They are influenced by the Holy Spirit, and are not resistant to the Gospel because they clearly understand and discern the message.

  • Romans 8:14 "For all who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God."

► They like to hear the Word of God even when the message causes discomfort or is difficult to accept, they do not try to change or distort the truth.

  • 2 Corinthians 2:17 "For we are not like so many others, who peddle the word of God for profit. On the contrary, in Christ we speak before God with sincerity, as men sent from God."

  • 2 Corinthians 4:2 "Instead, we have renounced secret and shameful ways. We do not practice deceit, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by open proclamation of the truth, we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God."

► They recognize the voice of YAHWEH and totally submit to His authority. They discern and detect the forces of evil and avoid sin because they are unwilling to grieve the Holy Spirit and separate themselves from the love of YAHWEH.

  • John 10:3-4 "The gatekeeper opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen for his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice.…"

  • Ephesians 4:30 "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, in whom you were sealed for the day of redemption."

► They eagerly seek the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, faith, gentleness, and temperance. They are naturally harmless, gentle, humble of heart and sincere. They refrain from any wrongdoing. They love YAHWEH's creatures and treat them with patience, gentleness, kindness, consideration and compassion. They are inclined to help and comfort those who suffer. And they easily forgive the wrongs from those who have offended them.

  • Isaiah 57:15 "For thus says the One who is high and lifted up, who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy: “I dwell in a high and holy place, and with the oppressed and humble in spirit, to restore the spirit of the lowly and revive the heart of the contrite."

  • 1 John 5:1 "Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ has been born of God, and everyone who loves the Father also loves those born of Him."

  • Galatians 5:22-23 "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Against such things there is no law.."

It is only by the grace of YAHWEH through the redeeming work of YESHUA received by faith that the children of promise are granted the privilege of being called children of God by adoption.

  • Galatians 4:7 "So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, you are also an heir through God."

  • 1 John 3:1 "Behold what manner of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God. And that is what we are! The reason the world does not know us is that it did not know Him."
