The Descendants of Meshech
The nation of Meshech is believed to have originated in northeastern Asia Minor, particularly in the region occupied by Turkey. Then they migrated north and settled in Rosh, modern Russia. Meshech and Tubal are identified with Russia, thus the two nations are connected with the modern Russian cities of Moscow and Tobolsk. The Scofield Study Bible's proposed theory recognized that the main reference to Meshech and Tubal (Moscow and Tobolsk) is a clear mark of identification to the Northern powers led by Russia. As such, the name Moscow, the capital of modern Russia, stems from the tribal name Meshech, and Tobolsk, the main state in Asiatic Russia, comes from the tribal name Tubal. Meshech and Tubal would then be names representing Russia in Europe and minor Asia.
Meshech is believed to be the ancestor of the barbaric and brutal Moschi nation that inhabited the Moschian Mountains that connected the Caucasus lands with the Anti-Taurus Mountains. The Moschi, who were closely related to the nation of Madai and Tubal, were known to be robust and harsh people, with whom it was not recommended to cohabit or, above all, not be in any conflict. The name Moscow comes from the term Moschi.
Psalm 120:5-6 "Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of Kedar! Too long have I dwelt among those who hate peace."
In this scripture below, the Psalmist says that he longed for peace, for he had lived for a long time with Meshech and in the tents of Kedar, two nations that "hate peace"; he was speaking of Russia and Arabia.
Genesis 25:13 "These are the names of the sons of Ishmael, named in the order of their birth: Nebaioth, the firstborn of Ishmael; and Kedar, Adbeel, Mibsam."
Jeremiah 2:10 "Cross over to the coasts of Cyprus and take a look; send to Kedar and consider carefully; see if there has ever been anything like this:"
Jeremiah 49:28 "Concerning Kedar and the kingdoms of Hazor, which Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon defeated, this is what the LORD says: “Rise up, advance against Kedar, and destroy the people of the east!"
Why of all the sons of Ishmael does the Bible name Kedar and not one of the other 11 sons of Ishmael?
Briefly, Kedar son of Ishmael, son of Abraham and Hagar the Egyptian, is the ancestor of an important tribe living in northwestern Arabia. Although the term "Kedar" is probably used to refer to Arabs in general, some scholars believe that the term is most certainly used in reference to the prophet Muhammad, since he came from Bani Hāshim, a sub-clan of Bani 'Abd Manāf, one of the main clans of the Quraysh who are believed to be descendants of Kedar. Moshe ben Maimon, commonly known as Maimonides, a Sephardic Jewish philosopher who became one of the most prolific and influential Torah scholars of the Middle Ages, interpreted this verse as a prophecy concerning the enslavement of the nation of Israel by the Arabs as a consequence of the Jews' sin of idol worship.
